When it comes time to plan your wedding you will have to decide how much money you have to spend on your big day. If money is an issue, you may consider the very popular idea of a do-it-yourself wedding. DIY wedding projects are very tempting to the budget conscious bride because things like centerpieces and wedding favors often look like they would be easy to create yourself for cheaper than you could buy them already completed. Before you decide to take on any DIY wedding projects, there are a few things you should consider before you try and do it yourself:

  1. DIY projects are time consuming – Creating centerpieces, decorations, or wedding favors for your event will take a lot of time, possibly much more time than you had planned. You can't just throw things together for something like a wedding. These decorations will have to look perfect for your big day and that will mean attention to detail. When you are planning a wedding, there are many things that you will personally have to oversee, and your time will become more priceless than you ever imagined in the beginning of the planning process.

  2. DIY projects never come out how you imagined – Have you ever had a crafty idea in your head, and then tried to create it only to find that it ended up looking nothing like it did in your head? Wedding professionals often make decorating look easy because they have been in the business for so many years. However, decorating for a wedding is not easy and there well be lots of trial and error when putting things together. You may not end up being satisfied with the final product and you won't want anything but perfect on your special day.

  3. DIY projects often end up costing as much or more than retail – You will have to purchase all the supplies to finish your projects which seems like it will be less expensive than purchasing finished products. However, when you take into consideration the trial and error factor things will most likely end up costing much more. You will go through some supplies just figuring out how to make everything look right and that will increase the price per piece of everything that you are creating. If you do a little bit of research, you might find some extremely cheap wedding favors that will cost you under $1.00 each!

  4. DIY projects add stress to the wedding planning process – Planning a wedding is stressful enough without adding extra projects on top of the planning process. There will be many things that you will have to oversee personally that can't be delegated. Your will need to consider what your time is worth during the wedding planning process. The small amount of money that you may save with a DIY project or two may end up not being worth the amount of stress that it will create due to the extra demands on your time.

These are all things that you should consider before deciding to try to create your own wedding favors, centerpieces, or wedding décor. Sometimes, things like this are better left to the wedding professionals.
